Getting Involved

Project bracelet & chalk

The You-Are-Loved Chalk Message Project is an annual, nationwide suicide-prevention campaign for LGBTQ college students.

The Chalk Message Project takes place annually on the Monday before National Coming Out Day. If your campus plans on participating, please email info@chalkmessages.org.

Ways to get involved:

1. Organize a chalking session on your college campus. It's simple: Pick a place and a time, print out flyers, send out emails, tell your friends, and get the word out about the event.

And then, on the day of the event, just take some sidewalk chalk with you and begin writing inspirational and uplifting messages.

NOTE: Be respectful. Check your university/community's policies on sidewalk chalk. Please do not chalk in any area where you do not have proper permission.

2. Want to make sure people understand why the messages are there? Consider writing an Op-Ed to your campus newsletter or local paper about your participation in the project and why it is important to you. Dialogue and connection are two of the most important parts of activism. Share your story.

3. Plan a discussion, workshop, open mic, vigil, or tabling event that will educate your community on suicide prevention and mental health in the LGBTQ community.
